On the use of photoelectron spectroscopy to probe the dynamics of a dissociative intermediate state

چکیده
An in-depth experimental investigation into the use of photoelectron spectroscopy to probe the dynamics of a dissociative intermediate state is reported here. More than 70 velocity-mapped photoelectron images were acquired from either one-colour or two-colour two-photon ionization processes, covering the energy range from the ionization limit of CH3I to about 3600 cm 1 above the IP. Numerous autoionizing states, both vibrationless and vibrationally excited, were observed and spectroscopically assigned. The finial ion state distributions, derived from the photoelectron kinetic energy analysis, are highly selective both in vibrational modes and in quantum numbers, as well as exhibit sensitive dependences on photon energy. These findings were interpreted as a manifestation of vibronic autoionization processes rather than a direct reflection of the dissociation dynamics of the resonant intermediate state in the (1þ 1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization of CH3I as suggested in previous studies.

Photodissociation of bromine on the Br2(1Piu) state is probed with ultrafast extreme ultraviolet (53.7 nm) single-photon ionization. Time-resolved photoelectron spectra show simultaneously the depletion of ground state bromine molecules as well as the rise of Br(2P3/2) products due to 402.5 nm photolysis. A partial photoionization cross-section ratio of atomic versus molecular bromine is obtain...
متن کاملReevaluation of the use of photoelectron angular distributions as a probe of dynamical processes: strong dependence of such distributions from s1 paradifluorobenzene on photoelectron kinetic energy.
Photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) have been measured following the excitation of the S1 origin band in paradifluorobenzene using a range of ionizing wavelengths and for resolved ion vibrational states. The PADs show a dramatic sensitivity to the photoelectron kinetic energy over an energy range of at least 1 eV from threshold, and almost no sensitivity to any prepared intermediate stat...
متن کاملExcited-state dynamics of guanosine in aqueous solution revealed by time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy: experiment and theory.
Time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy is performed on aqueous guanosine solution to study its excited-state relaxation dynamics. Experimental results are complemented by surface hopping dynamic simulations and evaluation of the excited-state ionization energy by Koopmans' theorem. Two alternative models for the relaxation dynamics are discussed. The experimentally observed excited-state life...
